“Last Stand” by Anna Mocikat is the fourth installment in the Behind Blue Eyes series, and it does not disappoint. With each book, the series gets darker, more intense, and more jaw-dropping, and “Last Stand” is no exception.

The novel centers around Nephilim, a badass heroine who is the only killer machine in the story who retains human feelings. Despite being the most deadly weapon in the entire Angel corps, she is lovable and fascinating. The relationship between Metatron and Nephilim is also a highlight of the book, taking the intensely complex connection between the two characters to new heights.

Mocikat’s skillful writing is on full display in the breathtaking battle and action scenes throughout the book. The author is a master at creating riveting sequences that keep readers on the edge of their seats. Additionally, the psychological depictions of the characters are spot-on as the author shifts perspectives from one character to another, giving the story additional gravity.

One of the most significant strengths of the book is Metatron’s character arc. In the first three books, he was the villain that readers loved to hate. I know I certainly did. However, “Last Stand” changes that. Mocikat has delivered a greater understanding of Metatron’s relationship with the Guardian Angel founder Lucifer, who, coincidentally, was Nephilim’s father.

The title of the book, “The Last Stand,” is apt, as it hints that not everyone is guaranteed a long life in the world of Olympias. This idea is implanted early in the story, and as a result, readers will sweat with each altercation where their favorite characters may not make it to the end of the page.

Overall, “Last Stand” is an excellent addition to the Behind Blue Eyes series. It is a must-read for fans of science fiction, action, and romance. Mocikat’s writing is top-notch, and it will leave readers eagerly expecting the next installment in the series.
